बागीचा-ए-अत्फल है दुनिया मेरे आगे
होता है शबोरोज़े तमाशा मेरे आगे
[I perceive the world as a playground. Where dawn and dusk appear in eternal rounds]

इक खेल है औरंग-ए-सुलेमान मेरे नज़दीक
इक बात है अजाज-अ-मसीहा मेरे आगे
[In His Universal form is a plaything the throne of Solomon. The miracles of the Messiah seem so ordinary in my eyes]

जुज़ नाम, नहीं सूरत-आ-आलम मुझे मंज़ूर
जुज़ वहम, नहीं हस्ती-ए-आशिया मेरे आगे
[Without name I cannot comprehend any form. Illusionary but is the identity of all objects]

होता है निहाँ गर्द में सहरा मेरे होते
घिसता है जबीं खाक पे दरिया मेरे आगे
[My anguish envelopes the entire desert. Silently flows the river in front of my floods]

मत पूछ कि क्या हाल है मेरा, तेरे पीछे
तू देख कि क्या रंग है तेरा, मेरे आगे
[Ask not what separation has done to me. Just see your poise when I come in front of you]

सच कहते हो खुदबीन-ओ-खुद्दार हूँ, क्यों ना हूँ?
बैठा है बुत-आ-आइना-सीमा, मेरे आगे
[Truly you say that I am egotistical and proud. It is the reflection, O friend, in your limited mirror]

फिर देखिये, अंदाज़-ए-गुल-अफ्शानी-ए-गुफ्तार
रख दे कोई पैमाना-ओ-सहबा मेरे आगे
[To appreciate the style and charm of conversation. Just bring in the goblet and wine]

नफरत का गुमान गुज़रे है, मैं रश्क से गुज़रा
क्योंकर कहूँ, लो नाम ना उनका मेरे आगे
[Hatred manifests due to my envious mind. Thus I say, don't take his name in front of me]

इमान मुझे रोके है, तो खींचे है मुझे कुफ्र
काबा मेरे पीछे है, कलीसा मेरे आगे
[Faith stops me while temptations attract. Inspite of Kaaba behind and church ahead]

आशिक हूँ, पर माशूक-फरेबी है मेरा काम
मजनूं को बुरा कहती है लैला मेरे आगे
[I am the Lover, yet notorious is my charm. Thus Laila calls names to Majnu in front of me]

खुश होते हैं, पर, वस्ल में यों मर नहीं जाते
आयी शब्-आ-हिज्राँ की तमन्ना मेरे आगे
["Dies" not one though the union is a delight. In premonition of the separation night]

है मौजज़न इक कुलजूम-ए-खून, काश, यही हो
आता है, अभी देखिये, क्या क्या, मेरे आगे
[Alas, this be it, the bloody separation wave. I know not what else is in store ahead of me]

गो हाथ में जुम्बिश नहीं, आँखों में तो दम है
रहने दो अभी सागर-ओ-मीना, मेरे आगे
[Though the hands don't move, the eyes are alive. Wine and goblet, let them stay in front of me]

हम्पेश-ओ-हम्मास्त्राब-ओ-हमराज़ है मेरा
"गालिब" तो बुरा क्यों कहो, अच्छा मेरे आगे
[Says "Ghalib" Conscience is companion and trusted friend. Don't pass any judgments in front of me.]
